Meet the Trainer Who Started at the Bottom and Now He’s Here

And for him, that low point was once weighing in at 300 pounds.

We want to recognize the fitness instructors who don’t just look great on Instagram—but actually inspire us to be better. So together with ReebokONE, we asked you to nominate trainers for the second annual America’s Most Inspiring Trainer search. After over a thousand amazing stories, we’ve narrowed it down to 12 finalists—which means it’s time for you to choose a winner! Learn more about Chris DaVeiga below, and cast your vote by November 26.

Chris DaVeiga, Boston, Massachusetts

Head trainer at Everybody Fights

His favorite post-workout smoothie

My favorite is a mix of peanut butter, banana, cacao nibs, chocolate protein, and almond milk.

What inspired you to become a trainer?

When I was at my heaviest, which was 300 pounds, I had to figure out what worked best for me to get back into shape. Boxing as well as strength and conditioning led me to where I am now.

"Since I walked in those same shoes, I understand the mental and physical challenges my clients face."

I know what it’s like to start at the bottom. Since I walked in those same shoes, I understand the mental and physical challenges my clients face. It makes my day when I hear someone say “I never thought I could do that,” when all they needed was a little push and some guidance.

What’s your fitness philosophy?

There is no excuse for neglecting your health. All you need is the desire to succeed and I will help you with the rest!

What’s your favorite success story as a personal trainer?

A 50-year-old woman who had multiple surgeries came to me and said she couldn’t really do much in the gym. We started off nice and easy, hitting little snags here and there. But six months later, she was in the gym crushing classes, competing in races, and down 100 pounds.

It’s awesome when one of my fighters wins a tournament or title—but to connect with someone who is determined to change their life no matter the obstacles is really why I do this.

The winner of America’s Most Inspiring Trainer will score a one-year contract with Reebok and major coverage on Well+Good. Cast your vote now!
