Once upon a time, I lived in New York City and attended endless beauty events discovering all the latest and greatest product launches and brand reveals. Of the many, many brunch-and-learns and cocktail parties I attended, there are a few that stand out. The first R+Co event I ever went to is one of them.

At the time, I was working in ad sales at a major magazine and just getting my foot in the door of the editorial side, so getting an invite to the R+Co launch party was nothing short of exciting to my 24-year-old self. The bright, airy loft was filled with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and product displays, and attendees had the opportunity to not only try said products on the spot but to meet the founders behind the game-changing formulas packaged in simple-yet-kitschy bottles. Then, at the end of the evening, we were sent home with totes filled to the brim with the brand’s best-selling products.

Ever since then, I’ve been a big fan of the brand—and because of that, I’m always all ears when a new launch comes out. And let me tell you: The new R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment ($38) might just be the best one yet.

The fine hair struggle is real

Before telling you why the R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment is officially a staple in my haircare routine, let me give you the 4-1-1 on my strands. I have long, super fine hair that’s color treated. While I have a lot of hair, since each individual strand is so featherlight, natural volume just isn’t a thing for me. As such, I’m always on the prowl for hair-care products that can lift my roots and help me achieve the va-va-voom look I so crave. (Recently, I fell in love with the Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control Dry Shampoo for that exact reason.) As soon as I read the description of the R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment—which promises that the formula will"build texture for long-lasting volume"—I knew I had to give it a whirl.

Why I love R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment for my fine strands

The R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment is marketed as a “mega-thickening treatment." Formulated with strengthening biotin, breakage-preventing ginseng root extract, oil-absorbing rice starch, reparative quinoa seed extract, and hydrating and shine-enhancing castor oil, the treatment is essentially a one-stop-shop for your best-looking hair ever. Sounds too good to be true, right?

When I used it for the first time following my R+Co BLEU Primary Color Shampoo ($59) and Conditioner ($59)—the directions say to apply it after cleansing and to let it sit for five minutes before rinsing out—I was admittedly skeptical. Upon rinse-out, my wet hair felt so sleek and silky soft, I was certain it was going to look majorly weighed down once it was dry. But oh, how wrong I was.

For starters, since my hair felt so conditioned post-use, I didn’t need to apply a leave-in conditioner to easily comb it before drying. (That’s pretty much unheard of with my fine, tangle-prone hair.) After combing, I used my Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler to dry it. First, I used the dryer attachment to fully dry my roots and partly dry my mids and ends. Then, I went in with the volumizing brush to give it a bit more shape. (This is my normal drying routine—when I actually put in the effort to dry my hair, that is.)

As you can see, my naked hair (ie: just shampooed, conditioned, and dried) is pretty much unable to hold onto volume. But with the R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Treatment set in, my strands perk right up and actually maintain the voluminous style I create.

To say I’m a fan is an understatement. Need more convincing? Right now you can snag it for 30 percent off, which means you can double your volume for nearly half the cost.
